Edward Eugene McKee, 80, of Hot Springs, Ark., formerly of Sioux City, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Hot Springs Hospital.

Cremation was under the direction of Caruth-Hale Funeral Home in Hot Springs.

Mr. McKee was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Onawa, Iowa, to Eugene Thomas and Myrtle V. (Bryceson) McKee. When he was 8 years old, the family moved to Sioux City, where he attended public schools through Central High School.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in World War II. While serving on the Sioux City Fire Department, he worked part-time for General Business Equipment. Later, he became a counselor at Nettleton Business College.

After the college closed, he worked as a financial consultant for Dain, Kahlman and Quail. In 1982, he accepted the same position at Shearson-Lehmann Brothers until his retirement in 1988.

A pilot, he was a member of the Hot Springs RC Club and EAA, as well as an Elks Lodge member.

Survivors include his wife, Connie McKee of Hot Springs; a son and his wife, Thomas and Debra McKee of Elkhorn, Neb.; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Jerry Smith of Omaha; two stepsons, Stephen Obrekaitis of Louisville, Ky., and Scott Obrekaitis of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandsons, Jim McKee and Josh Smith of Omaha; a great-granddaughter; and a great-stepgrandson.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Shelly Howard; and a stepson, Christopher Obrekaitis.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.
