Duane Dean Schenzel, 70, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Valerie Heller of Rustin Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Duane was born Oct. 20, 1934, in Sioux City, the son of Louis and Helen (Ball) Schenzel.

He married Alice Thompson on Dec. 12, 1953, in Sioux City. He worked construction for the city of Sioux City for several years. He then worked for the Farmer's Co-op in Hinton, Iowa for 20 years, retiring in 1985.

He was of the Methodist faith and loved to go fishing and was a collector of model cars.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Alice; two sons and their wives, Mike and Deb of Sioux City and Brad and Betty of Aurora, Colo.; four daughters and their husbands, Bonnie and James Fields of Sioux City, Cheryl and Rich Hesse of Sioux City, Arleen and Dennis Bowers of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Paige and Steve Hesse of Sioux City; a brother, Edwin Schenzel of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, LaVonne and Royden Auen of Sergeant Bluff; 12 grandchildren and spouses, DeAnna and Christopher Roberson, Jill and Jason Howley, Matt Swisher, Colette Schenzel, Michelle and Ray Calamanco, Jason Schenzel, Eric Schenzel, Krystal Schenzel, Whitney Hesse, Alyssa Hesse, Stephanie Hesse and Abbie Schenzel; eight stepgrandchildren, James Fields Jr., Christina Petty, Jermaine Fields, Nichole Gibson, Amanda Hesse, Zach Hesse, Alex Hesse and Madison Hesse; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and her husband, Marlys and Robert Stevens; an infant daughter, LouAnn Rose; a son, Dean Duane; and a sister-in-law, Patti Schenzel.

Pallbearers will be Tim Schenzel, Rob Stevens, Roger Stevens, J.R. Stevens, Art Vermillyea and Rockey Swisher.
