SERGEANT BLUFF -- Mary Katherine "Kitty" Dewey Woolery of Bloomington, Minn., formerly of Sergeant Bluff, died Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at Friendship Village in Bloomington.

The body was cremated. Graveside services will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements were under the direction of the Cremation Society of Minnesota.

Born June 7, 1914, in Sergeant Bluff, she was a graduate of the National Park Women's Seminary, Forest Glen, Md., She was a student at Stanford University, California, and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa, an academic honor society, and Kappa Kappa Gamma, the social sorority.

She was preceded in death in 1989, by Charles Woolery, her husband of 53 years, who served as city attorney of Sergeant Bluff for 30 years. After their retirement, they moved to Leisure World in Laguna Hills, Calif. She later relocated to Bloomington to be near her daughter and grandchildren.

An accomplished painter, she was given a one woman show at the Sioux City Art Center. She designed and constructed puppets and marionettes and performed them semi-professionally with her husband and children. She wrote and published four books detailing her family's history based upon research begun by her mother. She entertained us all on her organ and piano.

Remembered as kind and loving, intelligent and well liked, she remains an inspiration to her children, grandchildren and all who knew her.

She is survived by a son, William Woolery of Los Angeles, Calif.; a daughter, Elizabeth Lamb of Plymouth, Minn.; and grandchildren, Charles Lamb and Katherine Lamb.
