Patrick Henry Tracy, 83, of St. George, Utah, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Red Cliffs Convalescent Center in St. George after a lengthy and brave struggle.

Services were held Sept. 2 at Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel in St. George. Burial was in St. George City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent on-line to www.spilsburymortuary.com.

Patrick was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Richmond, Ind., to Patrick Francis Tracy and Margaret Augusta Ranville. He married Eva Edith Montandon on Feb. 14, 1950, in Sioux City.

He entered the military on Oct. 31, 1942. He served as a sergeant during World War II. During his service, the commanding officer wrote a letter stating that his character and morality were above reproach.

An Iowa transplant, he retired and moved to St. George 16 years ago, when he fell in love with the red cliffs. While living in Iowa, he was employed for 35 years at Knapp and Spencer, in wholesale hardware. He was a vice-president and a member of the board of directors.

He was also very active in Iowa community affairs, serving as chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Club, president of the Noon Lion's Club (specializing in seeing eye dogs), a member of the board of directors for the Sioux City Boy's Club and an officer in the Toastmasters Club. He also participated in numerous United Way Fund drives.

He served the Lord during his mortal sojourn on this earth to the best of his ability. He was a chairman of his church's finance committee, a deacon and elder for 35 years and a Sunday School teacher. He was a devoted member of St. George Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; two nieces; a grand-nephew; and two grand-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his only sibling, Randall Francis Tracy.
