Edward F. Colyer Sr., 83, of Sioux City, formerly of Sergeant Bluff, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at Sunrise Retirement Community following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Lint officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Edward Fred Colyer was born Jan. 31, 1922, the son of Fred Edward Reguard and Marie Colyer. His stepfather was Harvey Heath. He graduated from Central High School.

He married Minnie L. Jacobson in 1942 in Minnesota. The couple moved to Sergeant Bluff in 1949. He was a blacksmith in Sergeant Bluff and was the youngest blacksmith in Woodbury County, Iowa. He then went to work for the Sioux City Journal as a printer and proof-reader for 19 years. He started farming in 1963, and continued until his retirement in 2000.

He was a member of McCook Lake United Methodist Church. He enjoyed racing and car shows. He liked to make things out of metal. He also enjoyed short trips.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Jim and Renee Colyer of Sergeant Bluff; a daughter, Lorena Ruring of North Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gene and Edward Jr.; a sister; and two brothers.
