Bernadette E. Bockholt, 82, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 6:45 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Bernadette was born Nov. 1, 1922, in Fordyce, Neb., the daughter of Herman and Christine (Schroeder) Steffen. She graduated from Hartington-Cedar Catholic High School, then attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton, S.D. She was a nurse cadet during World War II in Washington state.

She married Roman H. Bockholt on April 14, 1947, in Constance, Neb. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital for 30 years and retired from Marian Health Center in 1983.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her flower garden.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Roman; three children, Michael Bockholt of Sioux City, Donna and her husband, Thomas Mullen, of Sioux City and John Bockholt of Sioux City; five sisters, Rosalia Lammers of Fordyce, Neb., Eleanor and her husband, Peter Burbach, of Hartington, Neb., Mary Vanderheiden of Laurel, Neb., Elizabeth and her husband, Harry Walton, of Alameda, Calif., and Ramona and her husband, Richard Meuret, of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Clara Steffen of Bennington, Neb., and Andrew and Rita Steffen of Crofton, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Paul and Brian Bockholt; a daughter-in-law, Patti Bockholt; and three brothers, Ike, Greg and Walter Steffen.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Queen of Peace.
