Alfred "Joe" Oddo, 91, of Sioux City died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Alfred Oddo was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Sioux City, the son of Cereno and Alpha (Milano) Oddo. During part of his life, he grew up in an orphanage in Chicago, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and helped build the Hoover Dam.

He married Marilyn Hall and later married Valarie Maaske on Jan. 20, 1995, in Sioux City. She died in May of 2002. He was employed in the optical business and then worked for State Steel for many years.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Siouxland Senior Center, Masonic Lodge and Foot Patrol. Joe loved to golf, bowl, fish and have coffee with his friends at McDonalds.

Survivors include two brothers, Chuck Oddo and his wife, Sheryl of Valley, Neb. and Frank Oddo and his wife, Debbie of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Connie Godoy and her husband, Ralph and Gloria Bartlett, all of Omaha; several stepchildren including Kenny Maaske and his wife, Tammy and Bob Maaske and his wife, Carol, all of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Viola Adams of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Maaske, Brian Oddo, Jeff Farnsworth, Ralph Godoy, Dan Westphal and Ben Tysor.
