SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Merle Eva Larken, 92, of South Sioux City died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim Moores officiating. Burial will be in Ponca City Cemetery, Ponca, Neb. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Larken was born Dec. 18, 1912, in Jackson, Neb., the daughter of Wallace V. and Amelia Mae (Martin) Shadbolt. She graduated from Ponca High School.

She married Richard D. Larken on Jan. 12, 1936, in Newcastle, Neb. He died May 7, 1999, in Sioux City. She was employed at Consumer's Public Power and various restaurants and grocery stores before retiring.

She was a former member of the Presbyterian Church in Ponca.

Survivors include a sister, Ruth Hiserote of South Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Harry, Albert, Walter, Clarence, Roy and Johnny in infancy; and five sisters, Florence Garretsen, Edna Brummett, Pearl Shadbolt, Grace Keene and Hazel Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Larry Keene, Jerry Hiserote, Ervin, Arden and Scott Shadbolt and Gary Brummett. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Shadbolt, Kevin McClain, Jim Buckler, Ron and Ken Ryan and David Harder.
