P. W. Southworth, Salix, Iowa

Salix, Iowa – P. W. Southworth, a resident of Woodbury County since 1871, died at the home of his son, W. W. Southworth, here Saturday evening, after an illness of several months of gangrene.

Mr. Southworth was born in Massachusetts, December 31, 1831. He was married in 1858 to Miss Amanda Alden, who with four children survive. In September 1871, Mr. Southworth came to Woodbury County, setting on a farm southeast of Sergeant Bluff and in 1883 he left the farm and moved to Salix, where he engaged in the hardware and drug business in company with Dr. E. D. Friar, and had been almost continuously engaged in business up to about two years ago. The funeral services were held here this morning, immediately after which the remains were taken to Sioux City. Interment was made in Graceland Cemetery.
