John Deignan, An Old Settler, Dies, Aged 74
Succumbing to a three months’ illness, John Deignan, who resided in Sioux City for nearly 44 years, died at his home, 710 West Third Street, last night.

Mr. Deignan had been in the employee of the Milwaukee railroad and the Sioux City Service Company during his residence in Sioux City. He was the first section boss on the Milwaukee Road out of Sioux City and for the last 18 years was in charge of a gang of workmen for the Service Company. He was in the service of the railroad Company for 24 years previous to that time.

Mr. Deignan was born on March 1, 1838, in Ireland. He came to the United States shortly after the Civil war. He stayed in New York about a year and then came west. He was identified with the early railroad history of Sioux City.

The deceased is survived by a son, Peter Deignan, and a brother Thomas Deignan, both of Sioux City. The funeral services will be held at 9 o’clock Friday morning at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
