Harold "Duane" Burns, 90, of Washta, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at his son’s residence in Sioux City.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Correctionville, Iowa, with Pastor Kim Crummer officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville. Online condolences can be made at nicklasdjensenfh.com.

Harold"“Duane" Burns was born on Sept. 26, 1928, to Clara Burns. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Ora Burns. He was a graduate of Washta High School.

Duane was united in marriage to Betty J. (Levin) Burns on March 27, 1947. To this union, six children were born. They raised their family in rural Correctionville and rural Washta until 1988, when they moved into Correctionville after retiring from farming. Duane and Betty lived in Washta from the late 90s until recently.

Duane worked as a farmhand and worked in construction early in his life. He then farmed his own land for 35 years and custom-farmed until 1988. He then worked for Obeco Mfg. and Mathers Construction.

Duane served on the Washta City Council and was a dedicated blood donor to the Siouxland Blood Bank. He loved dancing, playing cards, working on the farm and talking at the coffee shop.

He is survived by his three daughters, Linda Johnson of Sioux City, Vickie (Scott) Eatinger of Sioux City, and Suzann (Joseph) Griep of Stockton, Calif.; one son, Keith (Mary) Burns of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Lester (Janet) Levin and Arnold Levin; a sister-in-law, Janet Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sons, Robert and Dickie Burns; a grandson, Ryan Griep; two great-grandsons;two sisters, Annie Smith and Janice (Brown) Levin; and a brother, Gary Brown.
