Lifelong County Resident Dies Friday Morning

John Haskins, age 77 years, passed away early Friday morning, January 5, 1957, at a Sioux City hospital following a two year illness. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with Rev. Merle Elrod, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. W.E. Smith of Bronson, a former pastor at Lawton.

Mrs. Art Wilson was pianist, Dale Kuhns sang ‘The Lord’s Prayer. Mrs. Avery Willer and Mrs. Irvin Ludwig sang ‘The Old Rugged Cross’. Burial was in the Banner Cemetery under the direction of McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville. Pallbearers were John Zellmer, Clint Nicholas, Julius Sorensen, Lew Jones, Oskar Klein and J.W. Bier.

Mr. Haskins was born near Moville on November 4, 1879. He had resided in Woodbury County all of his life.

Since 1936 Mr. Haskins had made his home with his sister, Mrs. Alice Henningsen. Also surviving are a brother, Joe Haskins of Lawton, and a sister, Mrs. Hattie Bogg’s of Bottrel, Alberta, Canada, as well as several nieces and nephews, Dwight Haskins of The Miller Motor Co., here, is one of the nephews.
