Funeral Services Held for Harold Ahlquist

Harold A. Ahlquist, 87, Bronson, died Wednesday, March 25, 1981, in a Sioux City hospital of a long illness.

Services were at 1 p.m. Friday, March 27, 1981 in the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside. The Rev. Wally Racker, chaplain at Marian Health Center, officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City.

Mrs. Norman Swanson, soloist, sang ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ and ‘How Great Thou Art’. Mrs. William L. Prince was organist.

Casketbearers were Messrs. Wilbur, Arthur and Lloyd Anderson, Alfred Ahlquist, LeRoy Dose and Alfred Ahlquist.

Mr. Ahlquist was born November 22, 1893, the son of Alfred and Hedvig Johnston Ahlquist, in Crawford County. He moved to Woodbury County with his parents in 1907. He served in the Army in France in 1918-19 as a demolition expert and later as a sharpshooter in a reconnaissance patrol. He later farmed near Lawton.

He married Verna Mae Noffsinger February 20, 1924, in Sioux City. They moved to the Bronson area in 1940 where they farmed until 1960 when they retired and moved to Bronson.

Survivors include the widow; four sons, Maynard of Hornick, and Melvin, Marvin and Marlin, all of Sioux City; a daughter, Mrs. John (Mary) Porter of Sioux City; 16 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
