Faye A Kenney Downey, 1905-1993

Faye A Downey, 88, former resident of Sioux City and Bronson, Iowa, died Dec. 28, 1993, in San Mateo, Calif., following a long illness.

The body was cremated and the ashes will be buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City in late spring 1994.

Mrs. Downey was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Woodbury County, the daughter of Albert and Rhetta (Mahin) Kennedy [Kenney]. She attended school in Woodbury County and Bronson graduated from Correctionville High School in 1924, where she received her teaching certificate from the Correctionville Normal School Program. She taught school for three years. She married William V. Downey July 27, 1927, and they moved to Milwaukee, Wis. at that time. She later graduated form [from] nurses training in Milwaukee and pursued her career as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1970. She was employed at the Lutheran Hospital and as a public health nurse in Sioux City before moving to San Mateo in 1952. Her last employment was at Mills Hospital in San Mateo.

Survivors include two brothers and their wives, Cecil and Rena Kenney of Bronson, Iowa, and Don and Fran Kenney of Fresno, Calif.; a sister, Dorothy Nielson of Sioux City; seven nieces and nephews. A nephew, Albert Kenney of Redwood City, Calif., made his home with her for many years after his mother died when he was five years old.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Boyd Kenney.
