Lawton Pioneer Buried Monday

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church at Lawton for Clyde Bier, 75, long time resident there, who died at a Sioux City hospital Friday, following a long illness. Rev. Merle Elred officiated at the services. Mrs. Irwin Ludwig and Mrs. Avery Willer sang ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ and ‘Beyond the Sunset’, accompanied by Mrs. Art Wilson.

Burial was in Banner cemetery at Lawton. Pall bearers were W.T. Campbell, Ray Strong, Darold Miller, Harry Hays, Jake Jerman and Lew Jones.

Mr. Bier was born April 6, 1880, at Flora, Illinois. At the age of fifteen he came to Lawton. Later he homesteaded at Wasta, South Dakota from 1908 to 1912, returning at that time to Lawton, where he had since made his home. He attended the Lawton Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Bier was in the building and contracting business at Lawton. He retired from active work about eight years ago, due to ill health.

Survivors include one brother, J.W. Bier of Lawton, a nephew, Eugene Bier of Mason City, and a niece, Mrs. Otto Meyer of Kingsley.
