Climbing Hill, Iowa – Bessie E. Allen, 59, of Climbing Hill, died Thursday in an Onawa hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Church of the Nazarene in Climbing Hill. Dr. Forrest E. Whitlatch will officiate. Services will also be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Blair Funeral Home in Mahomet, Ill.
Burial will be in Grand View Memorial Gardens at Champaign, Ill. McCulloch Funeral Home of Moville is in charge of arrangements.

The former Bessie Elizabeth Brumfield was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Mahomet where she received her education. She married the Rev. Clayton Allen Nov. 22, 1945, in Mahomet. The couple lived in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota where he served as pastor. They moved to Climbing Hill five years ago to serve the Church of the Nazarene.

She had been civil worker at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, retiring in 1959. She received an honorary citation for civil service work at Chanute and Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Christie Mae) Ahlemann of California, Mo., and Mrs. Calvin (Janet Marie) Davis of Woodlake, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Sidney (Florence) Smith of Kokomo, Ind.; and Mrs. Robert (Mildred) Suttle of Elliott, Ill.; three brothers, Willard of Champaign, Charles of Fairmount, Ill., and Lloyd of Mahomet and four grandchildren.
