Wayne Everett Ray, 94, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Sunrise Manor.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with Patricia Roberts, deacon of Calvary Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Wayne Everett Ray was the oldest child born to Marion and Mae (Henry) Ray on May 23, 1913, in Sloan, Iowa. He received his education in the Salix, Iowa, area.

He worked on the family farm until his marriage to Velma Lucille David on Nov. 24, 1937, at the United Methodist Church in Salix. They moved to Sioux City and he worked for almost 40 years in the trucking industry with Sioux Transportation Co.

Survivors include his wife, Velma who continues to live at the same house the couple moved into in Morningside in 1954; a daughter and her husband, Judith Ann and Don Chesley of Moville, Iowa; a son and his wife, Dennis Michael and Judy Ray of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren and spouses, Gary and Susan Chesley and their daughter, Ann, currently in Japan, Nancy Chesley and Jed Hathaway of Rochester, Mich., Joel and July Ray and their daughters, Hannah and Rachel, Julie and Billy Roberts and Dwayne Ray, all of Arizona; a brother and his wife, Wilbur (Bud) and Bonnie Ray of Sloan, Iowa; a sister, Dorothy Foley of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Faye Ray of Kingsley, Iowa; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and wives, Don and Lucille Ray, Marvin "Dick" Ray, Maynard and Jessie Ray and Leland and Florence Ray; and a sister and her husband, Edna "Toots" and Floyd Curl.

The family sincerely appreciates the kind service given to Wayne during his stay at Sunrise. The nurses and staff went above and beyond in providing a positive atmosphere during the two times he was a resident at Sunrise Manor.
