Elaine F. Engle, 78, of Sioux City died Friday, March 28, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Elaine was born March 8, 1930, in Sioux City. She grew up in Yankton, S.D. and graduated from Yankton High School. She attended Yankton College.

She married Ronald J. Engle on Jan. 10, 1950 in Yankton. He died May 6, 1964. She worked for Sioux City Stationery Co. and at St. Boniface and Heelan High School lunch programs. She retired from Interbake Foods.

She was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church. She enjoyed politics, knitting, crocheting and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include seven children and their spouses, Steven and Patricia Engle of Kingsley, Iowa, Tim and Jackie Engle of Sioux City, Jeanne and Doug Johnson of Sioux City, Doug and Syd Engle of Sioux City, Tom and Kriss Engle of Sioux City, Jacquelyn and Rich Satter of Sioux City and Julie and Loren Most of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Allen and Joyce Polly of Platte, S.D.; a sister, Dorothy Johnson of Huron, S.D.; 15 grandchildren, Charles Engle, Jeff Engle, Katie Engle, Chad Engle, Ronnie Engle, Joe Engle, Jason Herfel, Thomas Herfel, Robert Herfel, Stephanie Irish, Ryan Engle, Melanie Engle, Nicole Engle, Natalie Engle and Amy Satter; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a grandson, Robert Engle; and a brother-in-law, Gene Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie, Joe, Ryan and Jeff Engle, Jason, Robert and Tom Herfel.
