Sister Cleonica Meier, BVM, 94, formerly of Sioux City died Monday, March 31, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Marian Hall Chapel at Mount Carmel in Dubuque. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:45 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, with a wake service at 4:45 p.m., at Marian Hall Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Funeral Home in Dubuque.

Sister Cleonica was born Jan. 21, 1914, in Crofton, Neb., to Joseph and Frances (Hoesing) Meier. She attended St. Michael, St. Boniface and Cathedral Schools in Sioux City. She graduated from Cathedral High School before entering the Sisters of Charity, BVM on Sept. 8, 1932. She professed first vows on March 19, 1935, and final vows on Aug. 15, 1940.

In Sioux City, she taught at Cathedral School from 1971 to 1972 and was parish minister at St. Boniface from 1999 to 2001. She also was an educator in Des Moines, Fort Dodge and Council Bluffs, Iowa, Butte and Missoula, Mont., Lincoln, Neb., San Francisco, Petaluma and Sacramento, Calif., Denver and Aurora, Colo. and Chicago, Ill. She was a parish minister in Kansas City, Mo., and Lincoln, Neb.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM with whom she shared her life for 75 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Evelyn Dunham, Freda Persinger and Elsie Ream; and brothers, Adolph and Thomas Meier.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM, Retirement Fund, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, IA. 52003.
