Harlan T. "Joe" Jones, 81, of Sergeant Bluff, died Saturday, May 19, 2018, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Harlan Terry "Joe" Jones, the son of Harlan and Gladys (Derby) Jones, was born on April 17, 1937, in Sioux City. He graduated from East High School in 1955. Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly after, and served as a seabee, working on heavy equipment. He was honorably discharged in 1959.

After his discharge, Joe was engaged to Lauralee Gregg in Sioux City for two years. He then moved to California and was united in marriage with Jean Ann Hardy in 1964. They had two children, Joel Harlan Jones and Joy Ann Jones.

Joe came back to Sioux City in 1974. On Feb. 14, 1979, Joe was united in marriage with Lauralee Gregg in Las Vegas, Nev. He worked for various trucking firms over the years, retiring in 2002. After his retirement, Joe was employed with Siouxland Regional Transit for the next 10 years.

Joe enjoyed camping, boating, and watching football on TV. He also liked grilling outdoors, but mostly just loved spending time with his family.

Joe is survived by his wife, Lauralee of Sergeant Bluff; Susie Damrah of Sioux City, Joel (Annasylvia) Jones of San Jose, Calif., Evan Jones of Las Vegas, Joy (Jourden) Clish of San Jose, Chris (Sonja) Velasquez of Omaha, Owen Jones of Dakota City, Chad Heckert of Salix, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, auctioneer for 60 years, Gary (Mary) Jones of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter and son-in-law, Diana Jean (Gregg) and Bill Cowan.
