Joleene Kay (Kenagy) Nelson, 64, of Sioux City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Joleene was born on Aug. 23, 1953, in Mountain Home, Idaho, to Gloria and Dwight Kenagy. In 1956, Joleene moved to Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School in 1971. While in school, she worked as a detasseler. Joleene worked at Wells Fargo Bank, formerly known as Norwest Bank. She worked as vice president of Wells Fargo at numerous branches. She retired in 2006.

Joleene did work as a CASA volunteer for many years, and was a strong advocate for Noah’s Hope. She enjoyed gymnastics. She was an avid animal lover and loved horses, horse shows, and dogs. She also loved playing cards and dominos with friends and family. Joleene especially loved Christmas, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Joleene married Jack Nelson on Aug. 28, 1971 in Sioux City, and together they had two children, Matthew Dwight Nelson and Sarah Jo Nelson. They divorced, but remained friends.

She is survived by her children, Matthew (Kim) Nelson and Sarah Nelson; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Mia, Alex, Austin and Finley; brothers, Gene (Bonnie) Kenagy and David (Danette) Kenagy; and many nieces and nephews.

Joleene is preceded in death by her parents.
