Pastor Dies at Hour He Was to Preach Funeral Sermon

At the exact hour that Rev. William Heim, of Storm Lake, Iowa was to have preached the funeral sermon over the body of Fred Schmalin, the clergyman dropped dead. Death was caused by heart disease.

Rev. Mr. Heim was called to Sioux City to officiate at the funeral of Mr. Schwalin who died Friday at his home, 822 Plymouth Street.

Arriving Sunday night, Rev. Mr. Heim went to the home of Charles Wulfeck, 1715 South Cedar Street, to pass the night. Shortly after retiring Mr. Wulfeck went to the clergyman’s room and found the man lying on the floor unconscious. A physician was called and the minister was revived.

Rev. Mr. Lempke of Storm Lake, was then called to officiate at the funeral services.

MORNING Rev. Mr. Heim declared that he was well enough to attend the funeral and was preparing to attend the rites when he again was seized with an attack of heart disease and died at 10 o’clock, the hour of the Schwalin funeral.

The deceased was pastor of the German Episcopal Church in Sioux City from 1890 to 1895 and also in 1921 and 1922. He was 62 years of age and is survived by his wife and one daughter.

The body will be sent from the W. Harry Christy, undertaking parlors to Storm Lake.
