Michael Collins Expires at Danbury, Iowa; Homesteaded Iowa FarmsMichael Collins, veteran of the civil war and former resident on a farm near Danbury, Iowa, died recently at the age of 85 years. He was a native of County Cork, Ireland where he was born March 10, 1837, coming to the United States in 1844 and locating near Oto, Iowa in 1860.
Mr. Collins homesteaded an Iowa farm, the deed to which was signed by President U.S. Grant in 1869. He enlisted and served in Company I, Seventh Iowa Calvary from the outbreak of the civil war to November 23, 1864 when he was honorable discharged.
Surviving children are Mrs. Mary Murphy, 415 West Sixth Street and John Collins of Sioux City; Mrs. Martha Twitchell of Danbury, Iowa and William Collins of Danbury.
