Gas Kills Man: Another May Die
Nebraska Stockman Blow Out Light Before Retiring for Night

Gas, escaping from an open jet, Wednesday morning snuffed out the life of one man and may prove fatal to another.

The dead man is John Schieffer, a stockman, from Crofton, Nebraska and the other man is Peter Klensmith of Fordyce, Nebraska.

Bodies of the two men were found lying side by side in a bed at the Loyal Hotel, 409 Jackson Street, by a maid who entered to make the bed.

The asphyxiation is said by Coroner J.H. Robbins to have been accidental. It is believed that one of the men thoughtlessly blew out the light when they retired.

Upon discovery of the bodies the police were called and a pulmotor taken to the hotel. It was found that Schieffer was beyond aid, while Klensmith showed only slight signs of life.

Schieffer was about 65 years old and his companion 40 years old. Relatives were notified and the body of the dead man removed to Samuels Bros. undertaking parlor.

Klensmith had not regained consciousness at a late hour Wednesday. He is at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
