DANBURY, Iowa -- Ina Weber, 87, of Danbury died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Willow Dale Care Center in Battle Creek, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at German City Church in rural Holly Springs, Iowa, with the Revs. Glen Houts and Dick Morgan officiating. Burial will be in German City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Ina Mildred Weber was an orphan having been left at the Iowa City Hospital on May 14, 1914, with the name of Iris Courthers. She was transferred to the Iowa Soldier and Sailor's Home, where she lived until being taken in at the age of three by the Robert Douds family and given the name of Ina Douds. After the death of Mrs Douds, Ina was returned to the home. At the 12 years of age, she made her home with the Robert Madell family from Newberg, Iowa. She worked in the glove factory there when she was 16 years old. Throughout her life, Ina made many attempts to locate her birth family, but was never successful.

On Dec. 24, 1936, Ina was united in marriage to Everett Weber of Mapleton, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed near Holly Springs, until Everett's death in August 1967.

Ina was employed over the years in many capacities. She worked at Westendorf's Manufacturing in Smithland, Iowa, for 14 years, cooked at Westwood School in Holly Springs, was a nurses aide at Sloan, Iowa, cooked at the Hornick (Iowa) Restaurant and later served 10 years as a nurse's aide at the County Home in Sioux City. She retired in 1979, and moved to Danbury, working part-time at the Mapleton and Battle Creek, Iowa, nursing homes. Before her illness, Ina worked at Cord Memorial Library in Danbury and baked cookies every month for Valley Bank.

Her passion in life was reading, she especially enjoyed autobiographies. She loved to watch NASCAR races and looked forward to visits from family and friends. She loved her little house and was active in the Friendly Neighbor Club. She was a member of German City Church in Holly Springs.

Left to cherish Ina's memory are three children and their spouses, Mervin and Ardis Weber of Battle Creek, Lynda and Jan Hewitt of Sergeant Bluff and Christine and Roger Jochims of Mapleton; a daughter-in-law, Rose Weary and her husband, Jim, of Ida Grove; 16 grandchildren, Joni Lillig of Grimes, Iowa, Deonna Fritz of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Laurie and her husband, Chris Zepp, of Grimes, Lew Weber and his wife, Sara, of Piedmont, S.D., Julie Feauto and her husband, John, of Sioux City, Lisa Mack and her husband, Jeff, of Holstein, Iowa, Mike Weber of Sioux City, Jeff Hewitt and his wife, JoDee, of Ida Grove, Joe Hewitt and his wife, Kayan, of Battle Creek, Jamie Hewitt and his wife, Tammi, of Ida Grove, Holly Lansink and her husband, Dale, of Sergeant Bluff, Justin Hewitt and his wife, Kelly, of Ida Grove, Jason Jochims and his wife, Kathy, of Charter Oak, Iowa, Jody Kleiger and her husband, Randy, of El Segundo, Calif., Jess Jochims of Sioux City and Josie Jochims of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-stepgrandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Ina was preceded in death by a son, Larry; and an infant great-grandson, Frank Ervin Jochims.

Ina's grandsons will be her pallbearers. Her granddaughters and a nephew, John Mack, will be her honorary pallbearers.
