Enoch Francis Fiscus 1846 - 1939

Enoch Francis Fiscus, 93-year old Civil War Veteran, died in a local hospital Wednesday night. The body is in Anderson’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Fiscus, who resided at 2512 Vine, was born February 6, 1846 at Cincinnati, Ohio and served in Company E., 125th Illinois infantry, during the Civil War.

Survivors include the widow, Eva, two sons, Bennie and Pearl S., both of Sioux City; two daughters, Mrs. Addie Connery and Mrs. Mary Mike, both of Sioux City; a step-daughter, Mrs. Bessie Mead of Sioux City, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Enoch F. Fiscus

Funeral services for Enoch Francis Fiscus, 93, Civil War Veteran, will be conducted Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Anderson’s Chapel with Rev. W.E. Smith of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Monahan Post of the American Legion will furnish a firing squad for the ritualistic service at the graveside in Graceland Cemetery.

Mr. Fiscus, who resided at 2512 Vine, died in a local hospital Wednesday night of complications resulting from influenza. The Veteran who served as a “substitute” soldier in the Union Army, participated in many of the major battles, was wounded once and captured once by the Confederates who sent him to Andersonville prison.

He was married in June, 1883 at Onawa, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. Fiscus celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last year. They came to Sioux City in 1895 and have resided here since.
