Marie Etchison, 82, of South Sioux City died Sunday, June 7, 1998 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gary Klatt and the Rev. A.E. Vehling officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Etchison was born September 16, 1915, in Soldier, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Mary M. (Waderick) Dethlefs.

She married Clarence C. “Jap” Etchison on September 30, 1935, in South Sioux City. The couple lived in Sioux City before moving to South Sioux City in November 1991. He died August 6, 1992, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where she was active in various church activities, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a past present of the Disabled American Veterans for the state of Nebraska. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Wyland and Judith of Tucson, Ariz., Robert and Julie of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Mark and Peggy of Eagan, Minnesota; four daughters and their husbands, Marliss and Lowell Stading of Ponca, Nebraska, Edith and Gene Chester and Clarrene and Edward Leffler, all of South Sioux City and Shelly and Jamey DeNova of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a step-daughter and her husband, Darlene and Bill Dean of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Walter and Grace Dethlefs of Warsaw, Missouri; three sisters, Clara and her husband Ray Walde of Denison, Iowa, Louisa Ferris of Onawa, Iowa and Ella Fester of Ute, Iowa; a son-in-law, Ronald Wood of Omaha, Nebraska, 22 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mardeen Wood, a brother, Henry, a sister, Esther Nemitz and a granddaughter, Tina Leffler.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Gerald, Jason and Chadwick Etchison, Timothy Wood, Steven, Chester and Zachery DeNoya.
