Services held recently for former resident

Ted L. Jonas, age 79, a resident of Sedro Woolley, Washington, passed away to his heavenly home on September 19, 2004, after an extended illness.

He was born January 15, 1925 to Theodore J. Jonas and Ruth (Knepper) Jonas of Smithland, Iowa He joined the U.S Navy (Seabees) at the age of 18 years and served in Guam during World War II. On July 8, 1946, he was united in marriage to Rozena M. Brummer, daughter of Herman J. and Josephine (Kipf) Brummer, former residents of Mapleton.

Ted worked as a carpenter for his father until 1953 when he moved to Mt. Vernon, Washington. He became a job superintendent for H. Halvorsen, Inc., general contractor of Spokane, Washington for thirty-one years. After retirement he settled in Sedro Woolley where they have lived for seventeen years.

They celebrated their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary in July of this year. Besides his work, Ted enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and dog "Poo".

Ted is survived by his wife, Rozena of Sedro Woolley; two daughters, Jacqueline Gent and husband, Lawnie of Sedro Woolley and Janelle Gonoell and husband, Rod of Selah, Washington; one son, Jay Jonas and wife, Anita, also of Selah; four sisters, Shirley Larson of Oto, Iowa, Theodora McCall and husband. Earl of Mondamin, Iowa, Cecelia Curlow and husband, Ron of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Betty Uhl and husband, Wufred of Smithland, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Alice (Brummer) Armstrong of Lynchburg, Virginia, Ramona (Brummer) Zediker and husband, George of Burlington, Washington and Ruth (Brummer) Condet and husband, Maury of Saratoga, California; two brothers-in-law, R.H. "Bud" Brummer and wife, Karen of Rapid City, South Dakota and Richard Mohrhauser of Mapleton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon Jonas.

A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, September 25, 2004, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Sedro Woolley, Washington, with Father Abraham Cueva, celebrant. Graveside inurnment services followed at the Greenhills Memorial Park, Burlington, Washington. A fellowship reception followed at the church parish hall.
