Clarice Jeannette Whitney, 83, of Sioux City passed away Monday, July 4, 2005, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Michael Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Whitney was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Colton, S.D., the daughter of Benjamin Chester and Clara (Egeberg) Aust. She moved to Sioux City at a young age and had resided here most of her life. She graduated from Central High School and attended a business college in Sioux City.

She married Walter A. Whitney on Aug. 11, 1945, in Sioux City. He passed away Nov. 24, 1999. She was employed with Murray Insurance Company as a claims adjuster. She was employed with them for more than 25 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Scandinavian Society and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheri and her husband, Ronnie Hamilton of Adkins, Texas, and Debra Ploghoft of Loveland, Colo.; a son, Barry Whitney of Buford, Ga.; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kristin and Lee Williams of San Antonio, Texas, and Erin and Randy Shaw of Seguin, Texas; a great-grandchild, Brayden Williams of San Antonio, Texas; a brother and his wife, Ben and Clarice Aust of Sioux City; a sister, Pat Anderson of Sioux City; and a sister-in-law, Roberta Aust of Iowa Falls, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Almoun Whitney; and a brother, Perry Aust.
