Clarice L. Beekman, 104, of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, and Sioux City, died Friday, July 1, 2005, in Arizona.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with the Rev. Roger Madden of First United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Clarice was born on Dec. 9, 1900, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lydia (Walther) Stark. She was raised by Mason City, living on a farm her first eight years, and then the family moved into town.

She married Ross F. Beekman on Jan. 31, 1926, in Fremont, Neb. The couple spent most of their married life in Sioux City. Clarice was a homemaker, had worked as a beautician and had also worked for T.S. Martin Department Store, where she was very proud that she was its highest paid employee. Ross and Clarice were in Le Mars for a few years and then resided at North Park Place.

After Ross died in 1996, Clarice went to Arizona during the winters with her son, John, and came back to Iowa during the summers. Her last residence in Arizona was an assisted living facility, Desert Winds, where she had many dedicated people caring for her.

She was a member of P.E.O., Rose Croix Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, an active member of the Gray Ladies during World War II and a member of the Sioux City Boat Club.

Survivors include a son, John (Mary) Beekman; grandchildren, Barb (Carl) Scoles, Lisa (Rick) Kraus, Dirk (Karen) Beekman, Dan (Lisa) Beekman and Bill (Meg) Beekman; and great-grandchildren, April (Mike) Ramsey, Amy Scoles, Brett Kraus, Tad Beekman, Ellie Beekman and Cody Beekman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 10 brothers and sisters, Walter, Viola, Alice, Annette, Gertrude, Myrtle, Lavera, Earl, John and Marjorie.

Memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., or to the charity of the donor's choice.
