Janet's body will be cremated following the funeral, and burial of the ashes will be in Graceland Park Cemetery under the direction of Larkin Morningside Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 8 p.m., a 4:30 p.m. rosary recited by the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the church.

The former Janet Lee Koberg was born Jan. 19, 1942, in Sioux City, the daughter of Arlo C. and Beatrice T. (Schrank) Koberg. She attended Immaculate Conception Grade School, East Junior High School and graduated from East High School. In 1964, she graduated from the University of South Dakota with a bachelor of arts degree in education.

In November of 1964, she married David R. Blessing in West Point, Neb. She was a full-time and substitute teacher in the Sioux City school system for over 25 years. She had lived most of her life in Sioux City.

She was a member of The Church of the Nativity and was very active with the church, volunteering her time whenever needed. Janet was also involved with volunteer work at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, where her mother lives. She also gave time to the Carmelite nuns whenever they called. She was always involved with helping other people, never thinking of herself. She, of course, always had time for her children and loved being with her grandson. Janet enjoyed walking and knitting.

Survivors include two sons, Randall David and his wife, Laronda Blessing of Durham, N.C., and Tyler Joseph Blessing of Sioux City; two daughters, Nicole Marie Scott and her husband, Cameron of Sioux City and Mary E. Blessing of Iowa City, Iowa; her mother, Beatrice T. Koberg of Sioux City; a grandson, Paxton Scott of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Jack and Jane Koberg of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arlo Koberg.

Pallbearers will be Randall D. Blessing, Tyler J. Blessing, David R. Blessing, Jack Koberg, Troy Schulte, Bill Scott, and alternative Cameron Scott.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Carmelite Monastery in Sioux City.
