Lillian M. Sundt, 89, of Sioux City, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, in Sioux City.

Services were 2 p.m., Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Lillian was born Lillian Mabel Nelson on Aug. 30, 1915, in Loomis, S.D., to Lewis and Ida Mae (Ling) Nelson, as the family was passing through on a move to Yankton from Elk Point in a covered wagon. A few years later they moved to Sioux City, where she resided since.

She worked in Younkers offices, American Cleaners as assistant manager, and Johnson Biscuit Company before becoming a partner in several area businesses before retirement.

She married Luie K. McMahan and had two children and later divorced. She then married George Sundt from Dakota City.

Lillian enjoyed teaching many of her grandchildren how to crochet, do embroidery work and sew, which she did beautifully. She had been a member of Royal Neighbors, and was contributor to many ministries and charities.

Her "Words of Wisdom" were "Never let your heart rule your head," and "You don't begin to know a man until you've been married to him five years."

Lillian is survived by her daughter, Lillian Schuttpelz and husband Carl of Sioux City; sister, Martha Nelson of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands; son, Luie Jr.; four brothers, Theodore Nelson, Alfred Nelson, Robert Funke and Emil Nelson; and two sisters, Sadie Eash and Bertha Saling.

She died at home with grandson, Don Brown, and daughter, Lillian, thanks to Hospice.
