Marjorie A. Herbold, Sioux City, died suddenly Monday, July 11, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Her celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Nativity. Visitation will be on Friday, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel from 4 to 8:30 p.m., and a rosary service at 7 p.m. followed by a Parish Vigil service at 7:30 p.m.

Marjorie (Margie) Ann Herbold was born March 4, 1950, to John and Stella (Uhing) Goeken at Yankton, S.D., and was paid for with a load of hay. She attended a one room school in Utica, S.D., with her older and younger siblings -- you know she was the middle child. She graduated from Yankton High School as a "Buck" in 1968. She was involved in mixed chorus, cheerleading, 4-H, Girls State and Honor Society.

She then became a "Yote" at the University of South Dakota, where she also was very active in cheerleading, Chi Omega Sorority, as well as being an honorary Stroller. She graduated in 1972 with a double major in special education and elementary education. During her time at USD she met her future husband Theodore "Ted" Herbold. They were married on Aug. 11, 1972, at Yankton, S.D. The reception that followed was at the famous Siegel Hall with a traditional South Dakota Umpa band wedding dance.

Marge taught special education for several years after college until she became a full-time mother, which was her true passion in life. She loved family, the farm, South Dakota, traveling, the mountains, gardening, cooking, playing the piano, her dolls and her two faithful dogs Mags and Cali.

Their first child Tyson, "the pilot," was born on Nov. 11, 1974, in Winnipeg, Canada. Their second child Nicole, "the dancer," was born on April 5, 1978, in Sioux City.

After living in Canada for two years, Ted and Marge, moved back to Sioux City and started Theo's Steak House and Lounge in 1976. Marge was an integral part of the everyday operation and the overall success of Theo's restaurant for the past 29 years.

Marge volunteered for Junior Women's League, Siouxland Civic Dance Association, PTA, Sioux City School system, Chi Omega Alumni, Women Aware, Child Find and the Catholic Churches of Sioux City.

Marge was a friend to so many people. She was always the first to visit someone in need, she would never ask anyone to do anything she was not willing to do herself. She was a partner and friend in every aspect of life. She was a true patriot, environmentalist and devout Christian. She tried to help and cheer up everyone she met. Marge was the best wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend that anyone could ask for. She continues to help others even in her passing by donating her organs to those in need. She placed her "sunshine" on everyone she came in contact with. We all love you Margie and know you will continue to shine your love upon us from heaven. God bless.

Marge was welcomed into heaven on July 11, 2005, as a result of a brain hemorrhage.

Survivors include her husband Ted Herbold, two children, Capt. Tyson Herbold (Melissa) and Nicole Herbold, all of Sioux City; sisters Peggy Pluimer (Ed) of Minneapolis, Judy Vinatieri (Paul), Rapid City, S.D., Joan Schaefer (Dale), Fordyce, Neb.; and brother John Goeken (Susan) of Utica, S.D.; sister-in-law Gloria Kindopp, Sioux Falls; mother-in-law Shirley Herbold, Lawton, Iowa; brothers-in-law Ron Herbold (Connie), Odebolt, Iowa, Scott Herbold (Cindy), Lawton, Iowa, and sister-in-law Leann Nixon (Mike), Mapleton, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Goeken, her brother Ron Goeken and her father-in-law Robert W. Herbold.

Memorials will be in care of the family.
