John Paul Glazis, 62, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Sioux City, died peacefully in his sleep of heart failure Sunday, June 5, 2005, at his home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Calvary Cemetery. Previous memorial services were held July 3 at the Veterans Hospital Chapel in Long Beach.

John Paul Glazis was born Oct. 6, 1942, to Ben and Berniece Glazis of Sioux City. To his family, relatives and friends he was known as "Johnny."

Johnny attended St. Francis Elementary School and graduated from Heelan High School in 1960. The family relocated to Long Beach, where Johnny attended Long Beach City College.

He served in the U.S. Army as a combat photographer while stationed in Vietnam. After being discharged from the Army, he went back to college and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State College in Dominguez Hills in 1970.

He was employed as a medical clerk at Veterans Hospital in Long Beach. He received the award "Recognition of High Level of Performance" during his employment.

He often returned to Sioux City to visit relatives whom he loved and cherished, especially his aunts Mary Little, Stella LePay, Olga Shpakowsky, the Littles, LePays and Shpakowsky families.

Survivors include a brother, Ronald Glazis and his wife, Clinett, and a nephew, Paul Glazis, all of Mission Viejo, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
