South Sioux City -- Died Sioux City

Frances "Sue" Newell, 86, of South Sioux City, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. Jose Miranda officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the City Cemetery at Lyons, Neb. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Becker–Hunt Funeral Home.

Sue was born March 10, 1932, in Thurston, Neb., the daughter of Frank L. and Emma (Zacek) Kubik. She graduated from Rosalie, Neb. High School in 1950.

She married Darold Newell on Jan. 17, 1952, in South Sioux City. She was employed as a secretary with the South Sioux City Schools for 40 years.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in South Sioux City. She enjoyed playing cards with her teacher friends and spending time with nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her son, Larry of South Sioux City; nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darold on Feb. 18, 1997; three infant sons; nine brothers; and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Mark Kubik Scott Kubik, Travis Matthew, Andy Mattes, Doug Mattes and Sid Port.
