Rozella Hock, 91, formerly of Sioux City, passed away on May 1, 2018.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in Mt. View Cemetery, Mesa, Ariz.

Rozella Hock was born in Cherokee, Iowa, on June 16, 1926. She grew up in northwest rural Iowa and graduated from Excelsior High School. She was a member of the school's winning women’s basketball team. After graduation from high school, she went to Evanston, Ill., and saved enough money to attend cosmetology school in Sioux City.

In Sioux City, she met her husband, Gaylon Hock, in a church study group. Soon after, they had a son. To seek better employment opportunities, the young family moved to Omaha. She continued to be self-employed as a cosmetologist for several years. Gaylon and Rozella had two children. After a couple of moves in Omaha, she discontinued her home cosmetology practice and worked outside the home.

She was active in the Douglas County Extension Club, the Benson Presbyterian Church, and the John J. Mercer Chapter of Eastern Star. After retirement, the family moved to Arizona. Summers were spent in Payson, Ariz., and more recently Lake Okoboji, Iowa. Rozella enjoyed traveling but mostly loved sharing stories and meals with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Penny Whitmore; two grandchildren, Kathryn and David Whitmore; three brothers, Vernon Lundquist, Kermit Lundquist, and Ralph Lundquist; and a sister, LaVonne Breckenridge.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Nellie Lundquist; her husband, Gaylon Hock; her son, Ronald Hock; a brother, Jack Lundquist; and a sister, Beverly Roush.

We will continue to cherish her love and kindness.
