SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Eva Krogh Davis, 98, of South Sioux City died of natural causes on Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Countryside Senior Living Center.

In accordance with her wishes and instructions, graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Graceland Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Nancy Leonard officiating. There will be no visitation. Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A time of gathering and refreshments will follow the graveside service at St. Paul United Methodist Church in South Sioux City.

Eva Christine Krogh was born Jan. 10, 1907, in rural South Sioux City, the daughter of Nels and Sarah (Iverson) Krogh. She was a lifelong resident of South Sioux City. She graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1924 and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1936 with a degree in business education. Following graduation from the university, she taught school for four years in Alma, Neb. In 1940, she began teaching business subjects and typing at South Sioux City High School, where she remained until her retirement in 1971. Thousands of students learned to type under her tutelage. She is remembered as a capable and devoted teacher, who cared deeply about her students. For years she remained in touch with many of her students following their graduation.

She married John Davis in March of 1928. They were divorced.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in South Sioux City and Naomi Circle. She was a member of Laura Chapter 301, Order of Eastern Star, for 75 years and a former member of the Siouxland Retired Teachers Association. Until recently, she was actively involved in the South Sioux City High School Alumni Association and delighted in being one of the oldest alumnae attending the annual gatherings. Just last Saturday (July 17) she attended the Alumni banquet and was recognized with honor and devotion. She was a former member of the American Association of University Women and the Adventurers Travel Club.

Eva loved animals and especially enjoyed her cats. Her passions were gardening, recycling, visiting the sick and shut-ins and, in earlier years, traveling. She was an avid South Sioux City Cardinals and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. When games in any sport (especially Cardinal girls basketball and Cornhuskers football) were broadcast, she could be found close to the radio or TV following and cheering every play. She was fiercely independent and insisted upon living in her own home until September of 2004, when she moved into an assisted living facility. Due to failing eyesight, she reluctantly gave up driving at age 93.

Survivors include a nephew and his wife, Gordon and Jane Krogh of South Sioux City; two great nephews, David and his wife, Julie Krogh of Dakota City and Rodney Krogh of Lincoln, Neb.; two great-great nephews, Christian and Christopher Krogh; and many cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and a brother, Ervine N. Krogh.

Pallbearers will be David, Rodney and Gordon Krogh, Doug and Scott Garwood and Martin Jorgensen.

Memorial gifts may be given to any charity or foundation of donor's choice.
