SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- William W. "Bill" Hedrick, 71, of South Sioux City died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Alex Washington officiating. Military flag presentation will be by the American Legion. Following the memorial service, there will be a lunch and gathering with the family at Gateway Bar and Grill. Burial of the cremated ashes will be at a later date in Omaha Valley Cemetery, rural Homer, Neb. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Bill was born Dec. 12, 1933, in Angel Hallow, Mo., the son of Ralph and Marjorie M. (Swan) Hedrick. He graduated from Homer High School in 1951. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from February 1953 and receiving an honorable discharge on Feb. 17, 1957.

He married Margie M. Van Cleave on May 31, 1958, in South Sioux City. He owned and operated Hedrick Refrigeration for 47 years. He was also co-owner of Margie's Last Chance Bar in Dakota City for 13 years.

He was a member of the American Legion, Hanson-Greenleaf Post 376 in Dakota City and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10753 in South Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Margie; a son, Mitchell of South Sioux City; a daughter, Vanessa Melchert of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Jack of South Sioux City and Allen of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Patricia and her husband, James Huggenberger of Emerson, Neb.; two grandsons, Will and Matthew Hedrick; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Hedrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Torticill, John Larson, Bill Morgan, Scott and Jeff Jorgensen, Ron Haase and Kim Sailors.
