ALTON, Iowa -- Ronald O. Konz, 74, of Alton died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Monsignor Roger Augustine, Monsignor Nicholas Ruba and the Revs. John Vakulskas and Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Floyd Post 220. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a St. Mary Rosary Society rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.

Ronald was born Oct. 13, 1930, in rural Alton, the son of John P. and Theresa (Mousel) Konz. He was raised in the Alton area and received his education at St. Mary's Academy, from which he graduated in 1948. He then attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, for two years. On Aug. 14, 1952, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 13, 1954.

He then returned to Alton and was employed with Reuter and Schmit Construction in Hospers, Iowa, until the early 1970s. He was then employed with Schnurr Construction of Hospers until he retired in 1995. In his retirement, he did woodworking at his home.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Rosary Society and the American Legion Floyd Post 220, all in Alton, the Knights of Columbus of Granville, Iowa, and Sportsman Club of Remsen, Iowa.

He is survived by a brother and his wife, Peter and Delores of Alton; two sisters and their husbands, Margaret and Wally Lehnertz of Redmond, Ore., and Viola and Ray Krier of Remsen, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Konz of Rock Valley, Iowa, and Agnes Konz of Alton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Melvin and Ferdinand, both in infancy, Francis, Robert and Cletus and his wife, Mary; and a sister and her husband, Leola and Omar Ricke.

Pallbearers will be Dave, Jack, Kenny, Mike and Rick Konz and Jerry Krier.
