Anthon, Iowa -- Mark Downing, 67, of rural Anthon died Friday, October 10, 1997 at his residence.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon, with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating.

Mr. Downing was born January 10, 1930 in Oto, Iowa, the son of Ai and Ethel (Johnson) Downing. He graduated from Oto Public School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army for two years stationed in Anchorage, Alaska.

He married Shirley Bolles on July 3, 1951 in South Sioux City. He farmed in the Anthon-Oto Area and later worked as a heavy equipment operator. He owned and operated Downing Dirt Construction, retiring in 1996.

He was a member of the Coyote Hunters Club.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Bill Cullenward of Sioux City, Vicki and John Haas of Omaha, Nebraska and Beth and Al Harms of Sioux City, a son, James of Anthon, a foster son, Jeffrey Trudell, eight grandchildren, Brian, Brent, Brandon, Sarah, Meghan, Emily, Cody and Marcus and a sister, Aprilla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and a grandson.
