Anthon, Iowa—Donald Frank Gothier, 78, of Anthon died Monday, June 8, 1998 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Anthon, with Dr. Arnold Herbst officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion McNiff Post 389 of Anthon. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by the Masonic service conducted by the Cerulean Lodge 550 A.F. & A.M. of Anthon, all at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Mr. Gothier was born January 18, 1920, in Anthon, the son of Colonel Frank Calvin and Nellie Mae (Neebel) Gothier. He was raised in Anthon and graduated from Anthon High School in 1938. He attended two years at Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a J.G. Navy pilot flight instructor in Jacksonville, Florida.

He married Betty Dawson on September 5, 1943, in Hawarden, Iowa. Following his discharge, the couple returned to Anthon, where he went into business with his father and brother. They owned and operated Gothier Mink Ranch.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, the Mason Consistery, the Shriners, the Royal Order of Vester and the American Legion Post 389. He also played basketball semi-professionally. He served on numerous boards including, the Anthon Town Council and the First Trust and Savings Bank on the board of directors. He was also a member of the advertising board Black Gamma and president of the Dark Mink Association.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Christine Elizabeth and her husband Larry Jansen and Patricia Jane Petersen, all of Sioux City and Mary Ann and her husband Terry Lane of LeMars, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Everett and Wilma of Anthon; two sisters, Frances Schuh of Anthon and Doris and her husband Wayne Sievers of Storm Lake, Iowa; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
