Fred Cooley Received Decoration for Acts Performed in France
Death early today took Fred Cooley, 52, a hero in the First World War, at a hospital after an illness of several months. He lived at 1109 Pierce Street.
Mr. Cooley was born at Sergeant Bluff and had lived there and in Sioux City all of his life. He enlisted here September 17, 1917, and served overseas in several major engagements. He was decorated by the American government for bravery in action. Mr. Cooley held membership in the Disabled American Veterans of the World War.
On November 30, 1916, he married Emy Miller, who died June 26, 1937. Mr. Cooley was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Christy Chapel at 711 Myrtle Street with Rev. Raymond Radliff officiating. Interment will be in Logan Park Cemetery. The disabled veteran’s organization will conduct services at the grame.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Marie Munhofen of Sioux City and Mrs. Pearl Oag of Ponca and two brothers, George of Sioux City and James of Omaha.
