E. Arlene Schmoll, 97, of East Helena, formerly Sioux City, died in East Helena on Jan. 16, 2018.

Cremation will take place and no service will be held per her request. Private committal will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City at a time to be determined. Please visit www.aswfuneralhome.com to offer a condolence to the family or to share a memory of Arlene.

Arlene was born in Elk Point, S.D. on March 4, 1920.

Her mother, Ester Chamberlain Baker, died when Arlene was three-years-old. She was then adopted by Eugene and Alma Treglia of Sioux City. Arlene graduated from Central High School and attended Briar Cliff College, both in Sioux City.

Arlene married Warren K. Schmitz on Sept. 10, 1937. To this union three children were born, Douglas Keith of Jefferson City, Mont., Karen J. Schmaus of Polson, Mont. and Marilyn K. Shaffer of Lone Tree, Colo.

Arlene was employed for a number of years by Dr. Hartung of Claremont, Minn.

Warren Schmitz was killed by a railroad engine explosion in June of 1947 at the age of 31. Her son, Doug, was four, her daughter, Karen was two and her daughter, Marilyn was nine months of age at the time of their father's death.

Arlene married Mitchell Murray in Dec. 1949 and moved to a farm near Claremont. Arlene and Mitchell were divorced and later in March of 1959, Arlene married Marvin Schmoll. Mr. Schmoll passed away in Dec. of 1995. Mrs. Schmoll then moved to Sarasota, Fla. in 1996 to be near her daughter, Marilyn, who then lived in Sarasota. Due to declining health in 2003 Arlene moved to Helena to be nearer her children in the West.

Arlene is survived by her two daughters, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Her son Douglas died in February of 2016.
