Donald R. Frey, 69, of Sioux City died Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Donohue Sarff and Tom LoVan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Frey was born April 5, 1930, in Ocheyedan, Iowa, the son of Ralph Rudolph and Pauline Minnie (Hattendorf) Frey. He was raised in Ocheyedan and attended high school there. He attended Worthington Junior College in Worthington, Minnesota. He moved to Sioux City and graduated from Morningside College in 1953.

He married Barbara M. Neilsen on June 18, 1960 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sioux City. He had been employed as an insurance agent with John Hancock since 1957, maintaining an office in the Peters Park area.

He was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church, where he was a member of the choir, served on the lay minister committee and the Prayer Warriors.

He was a former president of the Sioux City PTA Council. He was a member of Sioux City Association of Life Underwriters, where he served as a former president and legislative chairman. He was presented with the Ory Lownsberry Memorial Service Award by the Sioux City Association of Life Underwriters. He was a member of the Iowa Association of Life Underwriters, where he was a former regional vice president. He was a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, where he served as a former president, federation lieutenant governor and international governor. He was awarded the International Patrick J. Hodgins Distinguished Service Award and Cosmo of the Year.

He served as a former president of the Sooland Chapter of C.L.U. and chFC. He served as treasurer in the Sioux Trails Girl Scout Council and was a former president, board member and member of the Estate Planning Council.

He also served as past president of Sioux City Chamber Music Association and Sioux City Youth Symphony.

Survivors include his wife, a son and his wife, Donald S. and Dawn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a daughter, Pamela M. Frey of Elgin, Illinois; a sister, Betty L. Petersen of Fremont, California and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Ed Anderson, Dick Benz, John Cross, Ray Draube, Fred and Franklyn Frey, Don Herbold and Curt Stoever.
