Leo J. Sitzmann Jr., 74, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Sitzmann officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with a vigil service at 7 p.m.

Leo was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of Leo J. and Emma (Meyer) Sitzmann Sr. He grew up on a farm near Kingsley, Iowa. The family moved to Sioux City when Leo was 8 years old. He graduated from Trinity High School. He served in the U.S. Army.

He married Lorna S. Becker on July 29, 1957, in Sioux City. She died Jan. 5, 1994 in Sioux City.

He owned and operated Pauly and Sitzmann Grocery Store, and then worked for Holtz and Klinger Construction.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was active in Men's Club. He was a member of the Sioux City Eagles Club.

He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He enjoyed coaching his sons in Little League baseball and attending softball games at the Floyd Complex. He was a Sioux City sports enthusiast and was a supporter of Morningside softball where many called him "Mr. Morningside." He was a Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and doing yard work. He did volunteer work at St. Boniface and Queen of Peace.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Tim and Lori Sitzmann, T.J. and Molly Sitzmann and Tony and Jessica Sitzmann, all of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Tracy Sitzmann-Stolen and Tim Stolen of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Tyler and Alexis Stolen and Jackson, Jared and Brett Sitzmann; two sisters, Betty Murtha of Sioux City and Bernie Feauto and her husband, Dick, of Sioux City; and a close family friend, Dee Trometer of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorna; his mother-in-law, Agnes Becker; a brother-in-law, Bob Murtha; and a close family friend, Lloyd Trometer;

Pallbearers will be Tony Lopez, Roy Nichols, Dean Poss, Dan Lewis, Doug "Itchy" Evans, Terry Evans, John Nagel, John Staley and Ryan Prather.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vince Mann, Paul Prather, Leo Schnoes, Chuck Meyer, Tom Coulson and Larry Welch.
