Hellen Colleen Ford, 68, of Sioux City, returned to God from whom she came on Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Sernett officiating. A private family interment will be at Logan Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Colleen was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Sioux City, the daughter of Frank and Kay Whicher. Colleen and her twin sister, Cathleen (Kit), were the oldest of six sisters. She received a two-year teaching certificate from Briar Cliff College. She taught for one year.

She married Alvin J. Ford on Sept. 21, 1957. Her husband was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and they began their life together at Fort Knox, Ky., and were later stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. After two years active duty, they returned to Sioux City, then to Chariton, Iowa, Des Moines and back to Sioux City in 1971 so that her husband could attend law school.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church.

Her greatest pleasures were being with the family, traveling with her husband, gardening and being active in PEO, GR Chapter.

Survivors include her husband; four children and their spouses, Mary and Mike Schiermann of Birmingham, Ala., Carol of Milan, Minn., Steven and Nancy of South Sioux City and Douglas and Tracy of South Sioux City; three sisters, Pat and her husband Jack Beyer of Sioux City, Peg Larsen of Sioux City and Laurie and her husband Rob Daykin of Camby, Wash.; two grandchildren, Jacob Schiermann and Isabelle Ford; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sister, Cathleen, and sister Sue; and a grandchild, Parker Ford.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Briar Cliff University.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of PEO, GR Chapter.
