Alvin E. “Al” Robinow, 71, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday, December 25, 1999, following a lengthy illness.

Services were held December 27, at Congregation Beth Torah in Overland Park. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Kansas.

Mr. Robinow was born April 16, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Morris and Celia Robinow.

He graduated from East High School in 1946 and received his bachelor’s degree in forestry from the University of Minnesota in 1952.

He married Rowena Miller on February 2, 1952 in Minneapolis.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Seoul, Korea. Following his discharge in 1954 he returned to Sioux City, where he was employed with East End Grocery. The couple owned and operated the Coast-to-Coast Store in Morningside from 1957 to 1979. He then became a buyer for Knapp and Spencer Wholesale Hardware and later worked at Greenberg Jewelry. Before retiring in 1995, he served as a housing inspector for the city of Sioux City for 10 years. They moved to Overland Park in 1998.

He was a member of Shaare Zion Synagogue, where he served as building chairman. Following his move to Overland Park, he joined Congregation Beth Torah. He was also a member Jewish Federation, B’nai B’rith and Jewish War Veterans. He joined Congregation Beth Shalom. He served on the board of Northwestern Bank and was a past president of Morningside Commerical Club. He was a member of the Sioux City Camera Club and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters and their husbands, Lisa Robinow and Robert Chiang of Ithaca, N.Y., and Amy and Scott Franklin of Overland Park and three grandchildren, Molly and James Chiang and Yali Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Stanley and a sister, Dorothy Feigenbaum.
