Esther R. Larsen 1900 - 1984

Climbing Hill, Iowa-- Esther R. Larsen, 83, rural Climbing Hill, died Friday in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Climbing Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Kniess will officiate. Burial will be in the Climbing Hill Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today in the Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.

Mrs. Larsen, the former Esther Chilton, was born September 4, 1900, in Holly Springs and was a lifelong resident of the rural Climbing Hill area. She married Alfred H. Larsen February 18, 1920 at Holly Springs. He died March 12, 1976, in Sioux City.

She was a member of the Climbing Hill Baptist Church and the Friendly Circle of the church. She served as clerk of the church board for many years. She was a Charter member of the Climbing Hill Garden Club.

Survivors include one son, Alfred “Swede” of Hornick, four daughters, Mrs. David (Evelyn) Dawley of New Sharon, Mrs. John (Elsie) Griffin of Sioux City, Altha Larsen of Hornick and Mrs. Harold (Marian) Lohse of Broken Arrow, Okla.: one sister, Mrs. Art (Nell) Van Wyngarden of Indianapolis, Indiana, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
