Obituary of Harry W. Luchsinger

Harry William Luchsinger, age 75, of Hornick, Iowa, died in a Sioux City, Iowa hospital on November 18, 1984, following a short illness.

He was born April 30, 1909 in rural Hornick, the son of Jacob and Anna Saxer Luchsinger. On April 14, 1939 he was married to Frances Dunn at Onawa, Iowa. The couple made their home near Hornick where he farmed and was a livestock feeder. He retired in 1983.

He was a school bus driver for the Hornick school system for 17 years and a dealer for the Garst and Thomas Seed Company for 35 years. He was chairman of the Board of the Washburn Watershed.

He was baptized and confirmed in the German City Church at Holly Springs and was affiliated with the Hornick United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Frances of Hornick; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Jane) Handke of Correctionville, Iowa and Mrs. Robert (Sylvia) Dietrich of Hornick; a sister, Mrs. Marie Skinner of Hornick and three grandsons, Kevin Handke, Mark Dietrich and David Dietrich and one granddaughter, Traci Handke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, Walter and Alfred and two sisters, Nellie and Veronia.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 1984 at the United Methodist Church, Hornick, Iowa with Rev. Gary DeGeest officiating. The organist, Mrs. Orval Cox, played, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” sang by rev. and Mrs. Gary DeGeest.

Honorary casket bearers were Les Tresham, Roger Sulsberger, Earl Miller, Merle Carr, Howard Chapman and Milton Smith.

Active casket bearers were Scott Sulsberger, Gary Chapman, William Smith, Tom Ryan, Lloyd Tresham and Bruce Tevis.

Interment was in the Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
