Arthur W. “Art” Hickman Sr., 71, of Sioux City died Saturday January 1, 2000 at his residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Lawrence McCarty officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary, all at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mr. Hickman was born September 13, 1928, in North Platte, Nebraska, the son of Irl and Mae (Youngquist) Hickman. He was raised in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1946. He attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and Denver University.

He married Bonnie Easton on July 31, 1948 in North Platte. He was employed in the building supple business for 17 years with Hickman Lumber Co., in North Platte. He was then employed with Omaha Hardwood Lumber Co., in North Platte and Sioux City. He was also an agent with State Farm Insurance Co. in Sioux City for 27 years.

He was a former member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he served as the men’s choir director. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Blessed Sacrament/Monsignor-Newman Flanagan Council. He was a member and past president of Life Under-writers, Sioux City Lions Club, Samaritan Board and Siouxland Right to Life. He served on the North Platte City Council.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Sue and Warren Grieve of Sioux City; eight sons and their wives, Art and Corina of Indianola, Iowa, Chris and Barbara of Minneapolis, Steve and Betty of Fairbault, Minnesota, Phil and Kim, Brain and Karen and Mark and Kim, all of Sioux City and Joe and Deb and Greg and Dorothy, all of Sioux Falls; 27 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen and a daughter, Mary Diane Hickman.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeff and Mike Grieve, Keith Artie, Zach and Michael Hickman.
